What is the new generation MU-MIMO wireless technology?

October 20, 2021

You may have noticed that as time goes by, more and more appliances appear in the home, and among them, there are even more that need the Internet - smart TVs, computers, smartphones. I think, except for the iron and the toaster, all devices in the house depend on the Internet. If this continues (and most likely it will continue), one very interesting question is asked: if we have the same routers at home, will they withstand such a high load?

People who have seen or worked in technology, in particular in the field of wireless Internet, agree here - MU-MIMO technology is needed for this.

What is this MU-MIMO technology? Is it really that cool? Is it really worth having all of us at home?

MU-MIMO stands for: Multi User-Multi Input Multi Output. However, before we dive into it, let's first consider the routers that we all have at home. They will most likely be SU-MIMO technology. That is, Single User – Multi Input Multi Output. You would have seen the difference, now let's explain: Single User means that the router emits one wave and only one device can catch the Internet wave emitted by it at the same time. Multi User means that the router emits several waves (the number depends on its type, which we will distinguish below), and therefore, several devices can catch the Internet wave at the same time.
