5G internet will be allowed during flights in the EU - what is the US planning?

During flights on mobile phones, the so-called The era of turning on the "airplane mode" is coming to an end - according to the decision of the European Commission, airlines will be able to use 5G Internet in airplanes. This means that during the flight passengers will be able to make phone calls, send text messages and use streaming services with their mobile phones, of course, via the Internet.

In addition to the European Union, the use of a number of mobile devices during the flight is also allowed in the USA, including WiFi, although the use of 5G Internet during the flight in the States is not yet allowed, as, according to specialists, the area of 5G expansion in the USA is much larger. than in the EU. According to the US Federal Communications Commission, the next version of 5G - C-band 5G - is faster and its radio waves reach between 3.7 and 4.2 gigahertz in the States. The latter ranges from 3.3 to 3.8 gigahertz in Europe.

As telecom companies such as AT&T and Verizon begin using C-band 5G, the use of the higher-speed 5G frequency has become a point of contention when flying in the US. The reason is that according to the 2020 report of the Aeronautical Radio Technical Commission, "this step is considered harmful interference to aircraft".

Although 5G has been a point of contention in the aviation industry, it has gained popularity in recent years as it offers faster speeds than 4G LTE and 5G. In addition, C-band 5G provides a wider coverage area than its predecessors.
